Here in St. Cloud's it is high time something was done for the good of someone. What better place for improvement could there be for self-improvement, and for the good of all than a place where evil has so clearly flourished if not altogether triumphed?
When somebody does me a kindness, it enlarges me, adds to my life, you see? And not only mine – it adds to all life.
That is the one weakness that has led me into the most trouble. Trying to be kind to others I often get my soul shredded into a kind of spiritual pasta.
In this world you have to take your bits and ends of kindness where you can find them, as they do not grow on trees.
Kindness came finally to the better ones. There was less self-interest. Less fear. Less competitive gamesmanship.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfishness. Be kind anyway. All the good you do today will be forgotten by others tomorrow. Do good anyway.
